Congratulations to Ryan Baskerville for winning the recent Behind The Shot Assignment with the image, “The Little Things.”

“I was patiently waiting for a family of burrowing owls to come out of their burrow while sitting in the middle of a prairie dog town,” says Baskerville. “Prairie dogs were running about all around, keeping somewhat of a distance from me, when I glanced to my left and this lone prairie dog stood calmly in the reddish prairie grass 20 to 30 yards away. I was able to photograph the burrowing owls later after they came out, but after going through all of the images, this lone prairie dog was my favorite.”

Nikon D500, Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 lens. Exposure: 1/1000 sec., f/5.6, ISO 400, handheld.
