“One day at the end of January in Uppsala, Sweden, I took a short trip to an area where I know a northern hawk-owl had decided to spend the winter months. This day, the winter sun was shining when I walked down by the river to look for the owl. After a short time, I found the owl high up in a tree. It wasn’t in a good spot for pictures, so I did what every wildlife photographer has to be good at—wait. After about 30 minutes, the owl moved to another tree and down to an eye-level perch where I could get some pictures in great light. This was one of them.”

“I took this photo of a red fox on the last day of a trip to Grand Teton National Park. The fox was beside one of the pull-offs in the park, which made him easy to spot. He approached me quickly, most likely looking for food, and at one point was less than 5 yards from me. When he realized I wasn’t going to give him any food, he ran away behind a snow bank and looked over his shoulder one last time, and that’s when I took the photo.”

“Foggy Lake Martin Morning” By Betty Bérard

“This photo was taken at Lake Martin, Cypress Island Preserve. Lake Martin is a natural body of water within a cypress-tupelo swamp, located in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. This preserve has one of the largest waterbird rookeries in North America, with 13 species of water birds. Great blue herons are some of the first birds to arrive at the rookery every spring. Lake Martin is beautiful in any weather, but I especially love it on foggy mornings. I was at one of my favorite coves when this great blue heron flew in to fish.”
