This new season provides a unique opportunity for Tennessee hunters.

If you’re a Tennessee deer hunter itching for hunting season, here’s some good news: the wait just got a little bit shorter! Hunters will have the opportunity to harvest a buck earlier than ever before with a new, special hunting season.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency announced the approval of a special three-day, archery-only hunt slated for August 24-26. The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the season during its Nashville meeting.

Sorry, public-land hunters, but the season is only open to hunters on private land. The main reason for establishing this season is to give hunters a chance to take a buck still in velvet. The TWRA says this is the first time hunters in the Volunteer State have had the opportunity to hunt bucks in August during the modern era of wildlife management.

And yes, any bucks taken during this season do count towards the state’s two-buck limit. The TWRA says more information will be available with the release of their annual hunting and trapping regulation guides a little later this summer.
