The National Wild Turkey Federation has made it official, awarding the title and record of Best Overall Eastern Typical by a Female Hunter (West Virginia) to nine-year-old Peyton Mellinger.
Peyton’s Tom, which scored a combined total of 77.8750 points, eclipsed the previous record (a bird taken in 2016) by more than 3 points.
Here are the current top seven birds taken by a female hunter in the state of West Virginia:
Peyton’s bird had some impressive characteristics, including a 10.5 inch beard and 1.5 inch spurs.
Congrats on an awesome bird, Peyton, and for taking the title of #1 in the state of West Virginia. We here at Wide Open Spaces are proud of you!
