This is proof that a bad shot doesn’t always mean all hope is lost.
There’s nothing quite as exciting as getting up for the opening day of deer hunting season with everything set to go. Your approach is all planned out. Your archery gear is all tuned up. You’re ready roll.
What’s even better than spotting that first buck, however, is locking eyes on a stud still in velvet, as this opportunity comes in a particularly small window of time.
With stakes so high, a poor shot can make it feel like the world is ending and that the chance to strike has vanished. But as you’re about to see, there’s always hope.
In the following video, we see the boys from Tag N’ Brag, David and Dean Giarrizzo, hit a 160-acre patch of alfalfa to chase monster whitetail deer. However, not everything goes according to plan when David finally gets his shot.

September 3rd, 2019. We are on our way to go recover David's deer from last night. It's been 10+ hours since he hit him but this deer is somewhere in 160 acres of alfalfa. It's going to be like finding a needle in a hay stack. But, as a bowhunter it is our responsibility to exhaust all efforts into finding this deer. This is one of the tough parts about bow hunting but bow hunting is not perfect and neither are we. Come with us as we put a new set of skills to the test on a mission to find David's deer.

Let’s be honest, most hunters would’ve hung it up in a fit of frustration after experiencing something like this. The average person would probably think a second sighting of this buck would be so wildly improbable that it simply wouldn’t be worth the hassle.
Not these guys, though.
No, these guys stuck it out, returning to the same alfalfa to search for a needle in a haystack, where they would strike gold when velvet antlers surfaced above the foliage. Against all bowhunting odds, including some unfavorable wind direction, David is able creep close enough to finish the job with a well-placed shot.
While this was a total stud of a buck, with beautiful velvet to boot, the true reward of this deer has to be the payoff that came from their persistence.
