Without a doubt, one of the most common questions I am hearing right now is “when are the trout going to be stocked?” Seems like everyone is wondering about the fall stockings of catchable-size rainbows in urban and parks waters around the state.
Those stockings occur about the same time every year, and that time is October, usually mid-October. I do not have the full schedule yet for this fall’s stockings. We are still working out some logistics and honestly, at least in eastern Nebraska, it has just plain been too warm to think about stocking cold-water trout.
However, we certainly have a big weather change right now, cooler weather is here, and western Nebraska has been cool enough and some stockings have been done already, more to come soon. . . .
Sept. 3 | Sand Springs | 250 |
Sept. 13 | Grove WMA Pond | 50 |
Sept. 16 | Ponca State Park Pond | 1,500 |
Sept. 19 | Gilbert Baker Pond | 600 |
Sept. 24 | Rock Creek Lake | 3,000 |
Oct. 2 | South Morrill Pond | 400 |
Oct. 2 | North Morrill Pond | 1,350 |
Oct. 2 | Middle Morrill Pond | 450 |
Oct. 3 | Laing Lake | 1,500 |
Oct. 3 and Oct. 8 | Bridgeport N.W. Lake | 1,400 |
Oct. 8 | Scottsbluff Zoo Pond | 900 |
When we have the rest of the stockings scheduled, we will get the word out. You will see it here! We will probably know more within the next week or so.
Oh, by the way, don’t sit around waiting for the stocking truck! There are plenty of fall fishing opportunities that are prime right now! Quit asking about the put & take trout stockings and GO FISH!
