New IGFA world record applications have recently been submitted for a beautiful mullet snapper on fly from Panama, a Chinook salmon from Alaska, a brook trout on fly from the USA, and swordfish for a Junior Angler from Australia!IGFA Hot Catches - June 15, 2017

Hampl’s Mullet Snapper – Costa Rican angler Christopher Hampl caught this 7.26 kg (16 lb) mullet snapper on May 2 while fly fishing off Isla Montuosa, Panama that could earn him the new men’s 6 kg (12 lb) tippet class category. Hampl skillfully played the hard-fighting snapper for 35 minutes after the fish took the streamer pattern fly he was casting. If approved, the catch will replace the existing world record of 3.15 kg (6 lb 15 oz).IGFA Hot Catches - June 15, 2017
Fleming’s Brook Trout – American angler Laken Lee Fleming caught and released this beautiful brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) on April 17th that could become the new women’s 1 kg (2 lb) tippet class world record. Fleming was fly fishing Glade Creek, West Virginia, USA when the fish hit the custom fly she was casting, putting up a nearly 10 minute fight on her light tackle outfit. Weighing in at 1.25 kg (2 lb 12 oz), Fleming’s catch will replace the existing record of .45 kg (1 lb) if approved.IGFA Hot Catches - June 15, 2017
Schofield’s Swordfish – Aussie angler Kaitlyn Schofield potentially set the new Female Smallfry world record for swordfish (Xiphias gladius) with this impressive 152 kg (335 lb 2 oz) broadbill that she caught on April 23rd while fishing out of Lakes Entrance, Australia. Schofield – age 10 – needed only an hour to land the potential record fish after it ate the squid she had been using for bait. If approved, the catch will replace the existing record which stands at 31.75 kg (70 lb).
Griffith’s Chinook Salmon- Angler Lisa Griffith of Rancho Sante Fe, California, USA potentially set the new women’s 10 kg (20 lb) line class world record for Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) with this quality 9.3 kg (20 lb 8 oz) fish she caught on June 2nd while fishing out of Shelikof Bay, Alaska, USA. The potential record salmon ate a trolled ‘chocked herring’ rig, and put up a 10 minute fight before it was landed. The current IGFA world record in this line class is vacant.
