Well, I guess we have come to the official unofficial end of summer, Labor Day weekend. I typically do not have a holiday-related blog post for Labor Day, but this might apply to your “labor”:
That pie chart may be closer to the truth than many of us want to admit. The problem is, the sliver where it says actual work–at that time I am probably on the phone or e-mail, you guessed it, talking about fishing! Or, I am blogging about it!
We have calendars and such that help us keep track of time. Supposedly this date or that date is the end of summer, beginning of winter, etc. The problem is “mother nature” does not read books or calendars. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, and especially if you spend a lot of time fishing, you know the seasons change gradually. It is a process. If you wish to say that summer is over after Labor Day weekend you can, but from a fishing viewpoint, there are already signs of fall on, and under, the water.
Some of the best open-water fishing of the year is just around the corner, and in some ways it has already started. I say that every year knowing that there are a lot of other things to do outdoors in the fall. It is all good, but do not expect me to keep reminding you that there are some big fish to be caught, now. Nope, I ain’t got time for that, I got fish to catch.
