I have several little news updates I want to mention today, none of them major, but some folks will want to know!
Lake Ogallala
As I recall, some weather events eventually took a toll on the old fishing dock in the northwest corner of Lake Ogallala. That is being replaced:
New floating fishing dock to be installed at Lake Ogallala SRA
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Angler Access Area in the northwest corner of Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area (SRA) will be closed to the public briefly in mid-November.
The area will close on Nov. 13 so a new floating fishing dock can be installed. The construction is expected to be completed by Nov. 17. All other areas of the SRA will be open during installation of the dock.
Fremont Lake #20 Boat Ramp
I also know that the one boat ramp on Fremont Lakes pit #20 is closed right now for improvements. Likewise I heard that there is some work being done at Memphis SRA, but I am not sure what is happening there.
Crystal Springs at Fairbury
Most of our fall put & take trout stocking has been completed. Typically, the last waterbody to be stocked every fall is one of the farthest south, Crystal Springs at Fairbury. That stocking is usually last on the list giving time for water temperatures to cool and giving time for fish-eating pelicans and cormorants to move along south. In small waters, those fish-eaters can have significant impacts and we do NOT stock put & take rainbow trout for the birds to take!
So, I said all of that to say this, we have not stocked Crystal Springs at Fairbury, yet. I know at least a few folks wonder about that, because they have been asking! Right now, it looks like there will be about 1,000 catchable-size rainbow trout heading that way this week, probably on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
