We are a couple, three years into our “Take ‘Em” hunting and fishing promotions.  By now you should know the deal–you take someone new hunting or fishing, take a picture of them, enter it on-line for a chance to win prizes.  It could be someone who has never hunted or fished, could be a kid, but also could be someone new, someone who has not been on the water or in the field for a while.

The whole idea is to encourage folks to be mentors.  We need to share our passion for hunting and fishing with others.  We need new hunters and anglers.  It is necessary for the outdoor sports and it is necessary for our fish and wildlife resources.

If offering some prizes encourages hunters and anglers to be mentors, GREAT!  However, if you have ever taken someone new, if you have ever introduced someone to the outdoors, well prizes are trivial.  The “payoff” is much, much more than that!

Want an example?  Take a few minutes and watch this video.  Yes, it is a hunting video.  You all know I love spring turkey hunting.  I spend lots of time watching spring turkey videos.  You may not hunt toms in the spring, you may not hunt at all; that is fine, watch the video anyhow.  It ain’t about hunting.  Watch the whole fifteen minutes!

If you can watch that video without your “allergies acting up”, well, I cannot.

That is what it is all about.

Don’t need no prizes.
