Congratulations to Tom Thomson for winning the recent Telephoto Techniques Assignment with his image, “Final Approach.”
“I was in San Diego for a business meeting and went to visit my friend and photography mentor Roy Toft at his home in Ramona,” explains Thomson. “Roy has beautiful gardens, and we set up our tripods on the flowers and waited for the hummers to arrive. I like the spatial relationship between the flowers, the Anna’s hummingbird and the sun. Because this was with Roy, I had a cold beer in one hand while capturing this image.”
Nikon D810, Sigma 150-600 Sports lens at 300mm. Exposure: 1/2500 sec., ƒ/16, ISO 640.
