Watch Wayne van Zwoll's New Mexico Elk Hunt With A 6.5 Creedmoor

Gun writer Wayne van Zwoll shows us just what the mighty little 6.5 Creedmoor is capable of with his 600-yard shot on a really nice bull elk in New Mexico.

As we’ve seen in previous hunts with Randy Newberg and Dan Catlin, New Mexico is quite a destination for hunting elk. In this video, Wayne van Zwoll demonstrates the impressive performance of the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge on his northern New Mexico elk hunt. Don’t be fooled by the small bullet or the light recoil of the rifle. That little cartridge hits hard and really puts that elk down.

Watch the video to see for yourself:

Pretty impressive right? That elk didn’t even make it 100 yards after the shot.

Don’t let anybody tell you that you have to use one of the big magnums for hunting elk. Hunters have been taking really big animals like elk and moose with cartridges like the 6.5x55mm Swedish, .270 Winchester, the 7mm Mauser, the 7mm-08, and .308 Winchester for years. Heck, Randy Newberg has probably taken more elk with the .308 Winchester than he has with any other cartridge.

So, as long as you place your shots properly and use some good quality 6.5 Creedmoor ammo, the elk will probably never know what hit it.
