Congratulations to Gary Sherman for winning the recent Winter Sports And Action Assignment with the image, “Sub-Zero Surfer.”
“I woke early and headed to the coast of New Hampshire for a sunrise shoot in New Castle hoping for sea smoke. The temperature was -5 degrees F and it was windy, so with the wind chill it was around -20 degrees F. The sunrise was a disappointment as clouds covered the horizon. I decided to take the long way home and drive down Rt. 1A South along the coast to see if I could find something to photograph. I pulled over when I saw surfers at Jennes Beach. I mounted my 70-200mm lens, ran to the beach and started shooting. I couldn’t believe these fanatics were out there braving this extreme cold. But then again, surfers are a different bunch.”
